Springfield Extension Phase 4: Ribbon Cutting Event
The investment in Springfield Road construction and its phases of extensions over the last five years represents an important step in connectivity and progress of a major infrastructure project in Laredo. The most recent Ribbon Cutting Event held on July 21, 2025, marks a historic moment in advancing mobility. This section of Springfield provides a much-needed north-south alternative for connecting to IH35 and Bob Bullock Loop 20 to other areas of the transportation network in north Laredo and beyond. With funding from the RMA, technical field work from the City of Laredo, TXDOT, Laredo’s funding, and construction of a connection at the West Bound Frontage of Loop 20, and private sector land donor San Isidro Ranch Development, this project stands out as a model of what can be accomplished through collaboration. This project will have a lasting impact on the community for years to come.
-
- Critical north-south arterial project: The various phases of Springfield now and those that will be constructed connect key areas of Laredo from the north at Loop 20 south to Market Street, serving as a vital north-south route essential for community connectivity and development.
- Strong partnership and collaboration: The project exemplifies effective cooperation between the City of Laredo staff with acquiring right of way and design; the WC-CL Regional Mobility Authority (RMA) funding construction and testing, and TxDOT facilitating timely progress and connection to the IH35 frontage road, footing the bill for access to the West Bound Frontage Road at Loop 20. City authorities have had this project on the books for several years; the RMA is grateful to be a partner and congratulates those who managed the project and City council members who have actively advocated for advancement of the project over the years.
